Four Hour Freedom
← How to use Your First QuarterStep 4 of 8

Your first Sunday

Your first planning session takes about ninety minutes. Block out Sunday 4 October in your calendar now, before you do anything else.

Have the template open. If you want to use the AI prompts, open your AI tool in another browser tab. The prompts for each step are on the How to use this template + AI prompts page. To copy one, click inside the prompt, select all of its text and press Ctrl+C or Cmd+C.

Step 1: Review your life roles (15 minutes)

Look through the nine role cards in Life Roles and change any that don’t fit your life. Click a role’s name to rename it, or use the three dots to delete it. Add your own with + New.

Then go through each role and ask yourself one question: where am I, honestly? Write a line in the role’s Notes field if it helps. There’s nothing to score here. The point is to see your whole life before you plan the business part of it.

Step 2: Write your Enough sentence (15 minutes)

Open the Q4 2026 card in This Quarter. Click the empty space next to Enough and write one sentence: what would make the next twelve weeks a good quarter for you, by your own measure?

Keep it to one sentence. If you find yourself writing a list, pick the item that matters most.

Step 3: Set one objective (25 minutes)

On the same card, fill in Objective. It should connect to your Enough sentence, and be specific enough that in twelve weeks you can say yes or no to whether you did it.

There’s only one Objective field, on purpose. Two or three objectives feel responsible on a Sunday evening, then split your focus from the first Monday.

If your objective has a number, such as clients signed or pounds earned, fill in these fields as well:

  • Measure: what you’re counting
  • Start value: where you are now
  • Target: where you want to be by the end of the quarter

The template uses them to work out whether you’re on pace.

Last, change Status from Not started to In progress. The quarter’s dates, 5 October to 27 December, are already filled in for you.

Step 4: Plan week one (35 minutes)

Go to Weekly Actions and find the Week 01 column. It holds three sample actions, so you can see what a planned week looks like. Delete them, or type over them with your own.

Then add three or four actions that will move your objective forward this week. For each one, click + New at the bottom of the Week 01 column and type the action. Open the card and pick the Role it serves.

Keep the routine work that keeps the business ticking over off this board. It’s for the actions that close the gap between where you are and where your objective sits.

When you’ve finished, close the laptop. Monday starts with the thinking already done, and the first hour of the week goes on work instead of deciding what the day is for.
